Manitou Springs Proclaims April Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Finding Our Voices: Healing Art Activities for Survivors of Sexual Assault learned that the City of Manitou Springs, CO, proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Mayor of Manitou Springs, Marc Snyder, signed the proclamation. “The City Council reaffirms its commitment to address the issues of sexual assault and speak out against sexual violence by remembering victim/survivors, supporting survivors, holding perpetrators responsible for committing sexual attacks, and challenging societal myths and behaviors that perpetrate sexual violence in our community.”

According to RAINN, Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network, these are the some sexual assault statistics:


  • Every 2 minutes someone in America is sexually assaulted.
  • 44% of rape victims are under age 18, and 80% are under age 30.
  • College-aged women are 4 times more likely to be the victim of sexual assault.
  • More than HALF of sexual assaults go unreported.
